Research Activities
The Microbiology and Virology Laboratory conducts research activities in clinical and diagnostic bacteriology and virology. In particular, the laboratory conducts projects aimed to develop and clinically validate assays for rapid identification and evaluation of antimicrobial susceptibility on clinical specimens from patients with invasive systemic and/or localized bacterial infections by classic cultures, biomolecular and spectrometric methods; classic virological techniques, molecular and viro-immunologic assays for qualitative and quantitative evaluation of viral infections and spcific immune response. The Laboratory is the research pole of Microbiology and Virology Unit of the University Hospital Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino and is equipped with the most cutting-edge equipment and facilities and is characterized by elevated know-how, including cell culture for viral isolation, molecular and automated platforms, MALDI-TOF and next generation sequencing. The Laboratory is characterized by high synergy in the context of routine diagnostics, teaching and research activities.
