Research Activities
The laboratory carries out and promotes research in the study of the corpse, with particular reference to the application of new techniques useful for expanding scientific knowledge in the field of thanatodiagnosis, thanatochronology, collection of biological matrices on cadaver, sectoral technique and post-mortal imaging. The laboratory is based on the reception and study of corpses donated for scientific purposes, as reported by the National Bioethics Committee opinion on the "Post-mortem body donation for study and research purposes" published on May 20, 2013.
The same laboratory conducts research on all aspects of forensic histopathology, also through the application of immunohistochemical and more recently introduced techniques, in order to identify new diagnostic indicators validable in the forensic field, with particular attention paid to the study of fetal, placental and pediatric pathology.
